I have for years participated in the Willamette Valley Lavender Festivals.

One warm afternoon I found a corner in the garden to paint bundles of

lavender sitting in a basket. Before I left that day, several of these butterflies

came by know as the Scarce Swallowtail-different from the ones I had grown

up with in Minnesota! One landed and stayed for quite some time which

allowed me to sketch with my palette knife before leaving.
